It all started with a text that simply read, “Hey, this is Adrian” in response to a message sent by Lex Perry. Lex was looking to start a band, but was new to Charlotte.  At the time she was working on a solo project with Karl of Karl Gunther Studios. He suggested that she hook up with another singer/songwriter, Adrian Anderson. The duo started meeting up early January 2013 and slowly merged their writing styles. It was really challenging at first, since Adrian and Lex had very different genre styles.  Finally they were able to blend their styles to create a unique but familiar sound.

Now the search was on to find members to form a band, with no luck.  The summer of 2013 they found three key members right under their noses. At Karl’s Studio met guitarist Jamie Van Horn, bassist J.D. Freeman and drummer Chris Lambert.  The duo, Adrian and Lex, had recently wrote a new song called “As we Wait” when they introduced to the band it was amazing how quickly everyone blended together! Even though it had only been a couple of weeks they all found the magic that became the sound of “Monotone Maggie”.

The band began writing song after song, often completing them during one practice session.  It was thrilling for Lex and Adrian to write the outline, bring it band and they would easily take it beyond what they imagined!  Within a month of forming Monotone Maggie the band had their first performance at the NC Music Factory and a week later performed their song “Push” in the Lake Norman has Talent Competition.  Even though they did not win they gain great exposure and made alliances which included Case Warnemunde and Jessica Boye of Bella Love.

Bella Love would provide them with the platform to perform on a regular basis and a much needed practice place. In April of 2014 the band made their first studio recordings, “Spaceman” and “Straitjacket”. The debut skyrocketed their Reverbnation page earning them a top ten spot in the city and Featured Artist showcase. They also won competitions and performance slots from Reverb including The Charlotte Music Fest and Breakout Artist Music Competition.

Last summer, drummer Chris Lambert left the band to pursue other interest. The band struggled to move forward but finding new drummer Alex Horvath made recovery much easier and soon they were working on new music and performing.

As of March 18th, 2015 the band launched a Kickstarter campaign with Breakout Music Management to fund a trip to Cleveland, Ohio and to record a high quality EP and photoshoot. We know the best is yet to come!
